We are situated 5 minutes walk from Derwent Water and the Nicol End Marina for kayaking and water activities. Portinscale has a pub that serves food and a cafe. Our favourite eating places nearby are Swinside Inn and the Ivy Restaurant in Braithwaite. Keswick is a mere 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk for eating out, shopping and outdoor sports.

The famous Coledale horseshoe ridge walk starts and finishes in the village. The popular mountain biking trail centre at Whinlatter Forrest is less than 2 miles from the cottage.

Welcome to Highside a delightful cottage set in a secluded location overlooking the tranquil village of Lorton. Dating back to 1695 (as engraved on the fireplace in the kitchen), the cottage retains many original features but has been sympathetically modernised. The cottage resides within our farm, Terrace Farm with open countryside and panoramic views of the Lakeland Fells and numerous Wainwrights including Melbreak, Whiteside, Low Fell, Hopegillhead to name but a few.

Nestled in between woodland within the ancient temperate rainforest of Borrowdale, our wooden glamping pod is an idyllic place to base yourselves to explore the National Nature Reserve and beyond. We are situated near Grange village, within the Borrowdale Valley. A fantastic central location for a staycation in the Lake District. With miles of footpaths from our doorstep, adventure awaits! There is a bus stop 1 mile from our pod, which takes you to Keswick and beyond.

Barn under Catbells in the Lake District

We are a nature friendly farm at the foot of Catbells. Great walking straight from the door. We cater for walkers and cyclists who will appreciate the peace and quiet of the location. The accommodation is very basic with a small kitchen area, a wood burning stove, 3 single mattresses, and a double bed on the mezzanine. The bathroom is next to the camping barn, and there is a washing up area outside. The barn will be exclusively for your use, it is not shared.
