A tour on our farm entails first an introduction about how to behave around alpacas to get the best of the experience, and health and safety aspects of going into the paddocks. We will kit you up with some covers for your shoes to keep them clean during your farm walk.
An easy walk around the farm to various different groups of alpacas is undertaken while we explain why they are grouped together. When we get to the mums and young alpacas we give them some supplementary feed, some by hand as it socialises them well with people.
During the walk around the farm we will explain why their fibre is so prized and how we process it both onsite and in NZ. You will learn the animal husbandary that we undertake to ensure our alpacas are in top condition and well cared for.
During the walk there will be lots of opportunities for both selfies, we will take photos of your group with the alpacas and also you will get some wonderful scenic photos looking into the Hunter and Kepler mountains of Fiordland National Park and the Takitimu Mountains as well as Mt Titiroa which is the highest mountain in Western Fiordland.
At the end of the farm walk examples of washed carded fibre ready for processing and we have a big range of alpaca products for sale that can can be viewed in our Wild Wool Gallery on the farm next to Jessies studio.
