We'll meet at our agreed location in the city centre and following introductions, I'll provide an outline of the trip and safety briefing. We'll the drive out of the city in my 4wd vehicle upto the Brooklyn wind turbine scenic lookout, our first stop, and enjoy stunning panoramic views of Wellington, Zealandia and beyond. Throughout I'll provide insights about the Wellington region, it’s history, culture and people and the natural environment. Beyond Brooklyn we take a private access road traversing the rugged hills above the South Coast to Hawkins Hill, 500m above sea level, the highest lookout point around Wellington, for spectacular views across the Cook Strait to the South Island, east to Cape Palliser, and north to the Tararua mountain ranges. We then access Long Gully Station 4wd tracks driving across rugged terrain taking us down to Sinclair Head on the South Coast to appreciate the sun setting beyond the south island. Known as the 'Red Rocks' area, this is listed in Lonely Planet as one of Wellington's must-do activities. Along the way I'll explain some of the significant cultural, geological, and enviromental events that have impacted on the Wellington coast. Our route out takes us over the Gates of Mordor and through the Taputeranga marine reserve; and our final stop is Mt Victoria providing stunning night views of Wellington before returning to the city.

This is the single best experience in Wellington, period. The locations Raymond showed me were spectacular! Amazing wildlife, amazing landscapes, amazing views and great knowledge of the places we went to make this experience one of a kind. If you're in Wellington and you don't do this, I don't what's wrong with you 🤣 10/10 recommended!

My 4x4 Wellington experience with Raymond and his partner was fantastic! I was in the city for work and wanted to get outdoors for an adventure and to really see New Zealand. This is exactly the adventure I needed. Raymond picked me up at my hotel and we were off to see the wind turbines, traverse private lands, feed red deers, and watch the sunset on the beach with seals, hot chocolate, and hot cross buns. The views from the southern coast across to the South Island are unforgettable. Raymond and his partner were genuinely kind and interesting people. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening with them and would be happy to do this experience over and over again. We even had a bonus of seeing nudies streaking through the streets on our way to the top of Mount Victoria. 🤣 Thank you again for amazing experience, the travel tips, great conversation, and the opportunity to see what New Zealand really has to offer!

Wow, what an experience! Even though we have been to Wellington many times before the sunset 4WD trip showed us the beautiful and wilder side of the Wellington area and coast. We were fortunate to have a clear evening so got to take lots of amazing photos on the way to the beach to see the sunset. Feeding the deer cabbage on the way was unexpected so much fun too. Raymond and Julie shared their passion for Wellington with information, many stories and the tastiest hot chocolate! It is the best Airbnb experience we have done and highly recommend for New Zealanders as well as overseas visitors.

We booked this trip at a short notice but it turned out to be our best experience so far in NewZealand. Raymond covered many spots and look outs were special. He made sure we made it to Sun Set spot on time but we felt that tour was beautifully paced and we did not feel hurried. The vast and rugged shoreline of south coast was spectacular during sunset. 360 degree views from top of the mountain were unique and we would not have discovered on our own. We also saw seals and goats during the drive. We enjoyed changing colors of surroundings after the sunset and passed through Devil,s Gate. It was a value packed trip because Raymond kept explaining and sharing his knowledge of Wellington area. Weather was beautiful and City plus Harbour views in the night were stunning. We have some of the best pics. Enjoyed every minute of it. Go without second thoughts!

This was really a special experience in a four wheel drive vehicle on tracks that are not open to the public, taking you to really remote places and yet so close to the capital city. The views are spectacular and the experience is unique and personal in a four seater vehicle. Raymond is a retired economist from The Treasury but has a passion for showing people his favourite places. Strongly recommended!

I had a friend visiting from Scotland, her first visit in NZ, we both really enjoyed the 4WD excursion, both Raymond and Julia made us feel welcome, were very friendly and down to earth. We both loved stopping to feed the deer. I would recommend this trip, it’s fun and interesting.
