An introduction to packing with donkeys. We travel across country to the Tepon Coaching road to take morning tea on the banks of the Wild River. Then take the easy gradient to the foot of "Mount Jesus" where we tether the donkeys and walk to the summit to admire views across the Evelyn Tableland and to Silver Valley and The Great Dividing Range to the west. Learn about the Anti-Socialist mine, that can be traced back to"Red Ted Theodore " and the start of the trade union movement in the Herberton-Irvinebank region before WWI. We return to the donkeys and work our way back to the Wild River for a late lunch and return to the Donkey Depot.

I have lived in Herberton for 20 years. I have explored the region on foot and 4WD.During the past 18 years I have packed donkeys for walking expeditions & treks.Previously I served in the Australian Regular Army for 22 years in the infantry. I spent 9 of these years in the tropics, and three as the senior instructor of the Australian Army's survival school. I have led bushwalking expeditions into Kakadu, the Kimberley and scientific expeditions to Hinchinbrook Island, and the White Mountains near Hughenden.I enjoy donkeys, showing people the Australian Bush, history and how nature works

Donde estarás

Kalinvale Farm is a small bush block and the donkey depot for our 28 pack donkeys. The farm is surrounded by natural Eucalypt forest the home of many native animals. The Wild River is the site of the Herberton Deep Lead, a rich source of alluvial tin and site of many small tin mines.MT Jesus is an outlier of the Great Dividing Range and site of The Anti-Socialist Mine, named when the union movement of North Queensland was forming.

Tim provided an excellent day trip out to Mt. Jesus and the Anti-Socialist mine. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and I learnt a lot about local flora & fauna, as local history. It was a rare opportunity to explore the Australian bush on foot with a skilled local expert. Jack the donkey did a great job too!
