There is a set of 12 steps upto the studio apartment which is above and quite separate from Raymond's art studio. The studio is quite separate from the house so please respect others privacy and do not enter the house without permission. There maybe guests occupying the house exclusively or staying in one of the rooms. Guests using the house are not given permission to access the studio space.

When you have confirmed your booking, and shortly before your arrival, you will be provided with directions to find our place and asked to confirm a checkin time so that we can meet you and give you the keys to access the Studio.

You may use the spa pool but additional charges will apply on a per use basis. We ask that you respect our conditions and terms of use - please enquire first.

If you would like to experience true waterfront dining then you're most welcome to use the large outdoor dining table at the front of the house, or the picnic table across the road on the grassed area next to the parking layby.

From February 2019 we have e-scooters available for guests to hire - it's a great way to get around the city without the hassles of driving and parking your car. It only takes 20min on the e-scooter to get into the city centre and there's so much to see and do on the way too.

Wellington, Nueva Zelanda

Breaker Bay is a friendly community of approximately 200 people in a quiet and sheltered bay on Wellington's picturesque south coast that is very charming and considered the nicest beachside locality around Wellington. It offers opportunities for coastal walks, diving and kayaking right outside the front door. We have little blue penguins that nest all around Breaker Bay and if you go for a walk in the evening chances are you'll hear if not see them. The penguins are shy and do not like bright lights.

We have had Orca regularly visit Breaker Bay, hunting and feeding in the sea directly in front of the house observed by guests on multiple occasions.

Breaker Bay is:
- located centrally on Wellington's infamous "around the bays" scenic route.
- positioned midway along the stunning Eastern Walkway which is a Wellington "must-do"
- home to Little Blue Penguins
- frequented by pods of Orca and Dolphins

We are within 5min walk of Wellington's most sheltered swimming beach that is also promoted as Wellington's only designated clothing optional beaches!Breaker Bay is close to the airport (5min drive) but because we are sheltered behind a hill we get absolutely no airport noise. There is very little road traffic on the Breaker Bay road - you're more likely to see and hear cyclists than you are cars.

Walking distance to some of Wellington's most popular cafes:
- Gypsy Kitchen
- Sambal Malaysian cafe

Close proximity as it's only a 5min drive to:

- Wellington International airport (but we don't get any of the noise)
- Maranui Cafe
- Queen Sally's Diamond Deli
- The Spruce Goose Restaurant
- Elements Cafe
- The Larder
- Polo Cafe
- Roxy Cinema
- Weta Cave (home of the LOTR special effects)
- Large marine reserve at the southern end of the bay offering spectacular snorkelling and shore diving. Dive the wreck of the F69!
- Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre
- Red Rocks with great diving, seal watching, running, and ing options

Breaker Bay is east facing so we have the sun rising across the bay in the morning and get almost all day sun until early evening. The studio and entire property is positioned in a such a way that we are sheltered from cold southerly winds and the predominant north westerly winds that most other properties in Wellington are exposed to.

I'm a professional guy who passionately enjoys the great outdoors and always welcome guests to share my slice of paradise here in Breaker Bay, with you, as my guest(s). I have been an Airbnb host since March 2015 and have hosted in excess of 750 guests from all over the world, making many new friends and acquaintances. Along with Kelly, I enjoy sharing our lovely house with guests, either exclusively for their use, one of our guest bedrooms, or as guests staying in the Little Blue Penguin Studio. Over the past four years we have had many returning guests and most recently my first guests from China four years ago visited us again. I have two Airbnb Experiences trips that I provide to guests offering spectacular views of the Wellington region. One trip is for 3hrs around stunning Wellington South Coast. The other is an all day trip across to Cape Palliser. I am a keen spearfisher, scuba diving instructor, tramper (hiker), mountain biker, and experienced kayaker. I enjoy cooking, and if you want a real kiwi experience, i'll gladly dive for some paua and cook it fresh on the bbq right there on the beach - weather and sea conditions dependent. I enjoy meeting new people, hearing about their experiences, understanding their culture, and sharing my knowledge and experiences of the 'best little capital in the world'. I also like to say Wellington is the diving capital of New Zealand as we some of the best diving opportunities and most accessible coastline in the country. I have tramped, run, mountain biked, or kayaked most parts of New Zealand and taken many groups on adventures around the country. I look forward to the opportunity of sharing my experiences, and providing recommendations or suggestions of places for you to visit, the best cafes, wineries, craft breweries and other activities that you maybe interested in. I am always happy to provide suggestions of other places to visit in New Zealand before or after your stay here in Breaker Bay. I always look forward to, and enjoy meeting and hosting new guests, and our many returning guests, and each person is provided personalised service. I have provided many guests with personalised guided tours to many places around Wellington and further afield that that they may not otherwise visit. I know all the local Lord of the Rings film sites around Wellington and can take you to some that are not included in the 'official' LOTR tours. I have recently established The Little Blue Penguin Adventures to offer guests and other visitors to New Zealand unique and personalised adventures tailored to their preferences and interests. If you enquire about options for personalised tours would be pleased to provide further information when you make your booking. One of my personal values is Manaakitanga, which translated from the New Zealand Maori language essentially means the mutual respect shared between hosts, guests and visitors alike. For guests with confirmed bookings we provide additional recommendations on places to visit either before staying with us or on their trip afterwards.

If you are a Lord of The Rings fan I can provide you with a personalised 4wd trip to the Gates of Mordor – only accessible by 4wd or walking for 2-3 hours. This is not often visited by visitors to Wellington and not included in any of the organised LOTR tours available. The trip costs $50 per person and a minimum charge of $100 applies. We’ll show the local NZ fur seal colony, and also take you to other LOTR sites on Mt Victoria, and if time allows other scenic sites. Allow 2-3 hours for this trip.
For a longer daytrip excursion (weekends or public holidays) I can take you across to the Wairarapa for a full day, 8-10hour, guided trip to the seal pup nursery at Cape Palliser, Pituranga Pinnacles (another stunning LOTR trilogy filming location, Rivendell at Kaitoke, and also many wineries and craft breweries. We know most of the best cafes and restaurants in Wellington, having visited most of them, as well as many of the best sights and activities - just ask and you'll be given as many suggestions as you would like.

I have an extensive range of New Zealand books, guidebooks, maps and other materials for you to read - not all are in the Studio. You are welcome to take copies of the 'free' maps and other brochures that we have available and can highlight the best off-the-beaten-track places to visit :-) We have the most recent editions of the Lonely Planet New Zealand that you are welcome to peruse during your stay to assist any trip planning.
