“Awe-inspiring! You can walk through this garden and escape the cares of the world. But don’t forget to bring your phone or professional camera! Take pictures galor! Every plant, flower and tree is strategically placed and have you going back home to plant something in your yard. ”

Salón de conciertos
“I debated whether to put this in the Fun for Everyone or Fun for Adults Only category, but then I remembered that we took our kid to see Charlie and The Chocolate Factory here, and we all had fun. So, this gets filed here. DPAC is the region’s premier spot for Broadway productions, large concerts from well-known artists, impossibly expensive Hamilton performances, etc. If you’re not already here for a DPAC visit, check the schedule and see if there’s anything you’re into.”

Baseball Stadium
“I was a little too young to be allowed to watch the famously steamy Tim Robbins/Susan Sarandon movie Bull Durham when it came out, but maybe it’s time to put it on the watch list. Check out the team that put minor league ball on the map back in the 80s. I hope they got some new players since then, otherwise the game will be slow…or conversely…over real quick. The newish Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DPAB) is a world-class stadium for Minor League ball. Cheap, easy to get to, and fun for everyone. Check the schedule to see when they’re doing fireworks. Bonus!”

Cafetería

“There are three locations of this creative coffee shop and roastery in Durham, but the closest is straight down Geer St. Try one of their creative drinks, including a wide selection of hot chocolates. This is a lovely place to sit and take in the Durham scene. After your coffee, you can stroll around the neighborhood and visit Fullsteam Brewery, browse local goods at The Mothership, or walk to the Durham Farmers’ Market. Pro-Tip: arrive early on Saturday to beat the line. Recommended: The Dr. Durham Latte, or check out the Lakewood location for made-to-order churros!”

“Check out a Duke Sporting event if you have time. The ticket prices are usually really affordable for most of the sports and easy to get. Duke has a prestigious athletic program and their facilities are some of the best in the country.”

Centro comercial
“If you are willing to venture a little further, Southpoint is a very popular shopping venue for our area. It blends the traditional mall (like Crabtree) with a street lined shopping experience as well. There are many restaurants, shops, theaters, and even an IMAX. ”

“Ponysaurus Brewing Co. is a forward-thinking, backward-tasting brewery, creating beers that are meant to be savored, appreciated, contemplated, philosophized, studied, nuzzled, and mindfully guzzled. The brewery, taproom and outdoor beer garden buzzes with activity in warm weather. Try the Biere de Garde, it’s our favorite. Kids and pets welcome, so daytime visits can skew a bit Romper Room.”

“If you want to treat yourself, go here. An out-of-this-world tapas place, you can have a whole range of experiences from a quick snack and drink to a full-on dinner. Everything is delicious, the space is romantic and transporting, and the servers are friendly and willing to guide you on your tapas journey. They also have an incredible selection of sherry. Recommended: Warm Olives, Fresh Cheese with Pepper Jelly, Artichoke Salad, Patatas Bravas, Pan con Tomate. I could list the entire menu!”

“A creatively restored mid-century hotel, The Durham is a great spot to take in the city skyline and enjoy a drink. Take the elevator to the top floor and look at Durham from above. The head bartender is one of the best in town and the menu is delicious. You can also get dinner and creative snacks, too. Recommended: Dessert Cocktails”

“ This market is only 10 minutes away in downtown and full of the best produce, crafts, and more. Held every Saturday from 8-12am (10-12am from December - March) this is a great place to go to see Durham in action. ”
