“Houghton Bay is smack in the middle of this marine reserve. Established in 2009 it is now teaming with sea life. If the surf is low and the water clear you can see abundant fish, lobster and Paua (abalone) in shallow water with a snorkel or even in the rock pools.”

“Allow up to 5 hours to traverse 12kms of Wellington’s ridge tops following the Outer Green Belt onto Mount Kaukau, the Crow’s Nest, Kilmister Tops and Johnston Hill. Take time to indulge in the stunning rural, city and coastal views along the way. On a clear day, views of the Kaikoura ranges, the Marlborough Sounds, Wellington city and harbour, and the Tararua and Orongorongo ranges will take your breath away.”

“great views of Wellington, 4-6 hour walk best on fine days when it's not windy. stay on the ridgeline for amazing views to both Wellington and the West coast. Needs to be organised with transport to/from Johnsonville and Karori, as the walk is a one way hike. Best to probably start in Johnsoville, by catching the bus, and then hiking up towards Mt Kaukau and then catch a bus from Karori back into the city.”
