Lovely day trip, you can hire a car in town for around $90 and head out Mount Aspiring Road until you get to the carpark. All well sign posted and a really cool one day hike up the glacier. Take a picnic. reasonable standard of fitness needed.

Mount Iron is close to town , good fitness day is to walk to town for coffee, then onto Mount Iron, walk up to see fabulous views and then walk back to town for lunch. Nice day out.

Sightseeing
Lovely walk or cycle ride from wanaka out to Glendhu bay, its an intermediate track so you need to be pretty experienced on the bike, otherwise lovely walking track. Head straight down to the lake from the cottage and follow the track to the left along the side of the lake.. stop off at Edgewater resort for a coffee and fresh baked scone or glass of wine.

Glendhu Bay
Lovely walk or cycle ride from wanaka out to Glendhu bay, its an intermediate track so you need to be pretty experienced on the bike, otherwise lovely walking track. Head straight down to the lake from the cottage and follow the track to the left along the side of the lake.. stop off at Edgewater resort for a coffee and fresh baked scone or glass of wine.
There are cycle tracks following around the Lake Wanaka. One side heads out to Glendu Bay which requires an experienced intermediate rider, the other side heads out to the outlet track, this is much easier and goes all the way to Hawea lake if you wanted a big day out. both are lovely tracks that you can walk or cycle.
