Experience the Mussel Inn: A Golden Bay institution and featured in international guide books. A laid-back “pub’’ with a real local flavour, it brews it own selection of terrific beers, stocks wines and serves a selection of hearty meals. You can’t book and have to take your chances on finding a table, but relax over a drink and one usually becomes available. Also has a good selection of live music, especially during the summer

Whaririki: this is a beautiful and rugged beach with high rising dunes and island rock formations further west past Puponga. Follow the road signs, park, and then it is about a 20-30 minute walk to the beach, but well worth it when you get there. Very exposed, so choose a day when there is little wind.
If possible visit at low tide, this is the best time to see seals and get closer to the rock formations. Due to strong currents, this is NOT a swimming beach.
