Food Scene

Our favorite restaurant! Homemade and locally sourced menu items, delicious pizza, salads, and housemade pasta and very well made food. Always a great beer selection on tap with a cider; Boneyard RPM (local favorite) is a permanent on tap. They also have fridges lining the wall with drink options, non and alcoholic. And, you can just buy a bottle of wine for $8 for the table, very nice and cost-effective! They have a good coffee bar and awesome desserts too. One of the local favorites in town for sure. There's one on Northeast Cushing Drive, Bend, which is super close but we're attached to the original one which is slightly cozier, in NorthWest Bend close to downtown.

Awesome breakfast joint! beautiful gardens outside and great, big portions of good breakfast food with lots of options. Also, they'll serve you coffee while you wait and seem to give a pastry with every breakfast entree. Good for lunch too, and right across the street from the river. Ask at the restaurant for how to get to the close-by park that you can walk to to enjoy the water.

Best coffee in town! Delicious espresso, great baked good choices, and they make everything themselves-- their own roasted beans and even the whipped cream they did by hand... super sweet people too.

Entertainment & Activities

On a hot day this is a regular local activity, floating the river right through the middle of town. It's so fun and I highly recommend it. Very relaxing. I have 2 floaties you can borrow and a pump you can use plugged into a car. plan about 1-1.5 hours if you get out before the bridge with all the signs, and about 2+ hours if you float to Drake park. You can park a car at Drake park or take a shuttle back from there. Or, you can park at Riverbend park and just walk back from the Colorado bridge exit off the river (you'll see other people getting out, big signs with warnings about the upcoming rapids). If you go through the "rapids", just be careful and lift your bum really well so it doesn't hit any rocks. It's safe if you do so.

Mt. biking trail system! Whoops is a fun one to head to, there's a map at the trailhead or you can pull one up on your smartphone. Let me know if you're mt. biking and I'll leave you what resources for maps that I can. This system connects to many trails further out. -Other fun mt. bike routes are: Funner-Tiddliwinks loop (up 14th street further, you'll need to look on the bike map to find how to get there). This one is a great climb, then cross country ride, then awesome, flowy with jumps downhill. -If you start at Swampy Sno Park (either you need to cars or you can sign up to do a shuttle through Cog Wild ahead of time), you can do a great downhill ride for 2-4 hours back to Phil's. Downhills you should consider are South Fork and Upper/Lower Whoops.

Parks & Nature

South of Bend is the area of Sunriver and the surrounding area. I go there to do a more quiet, nature-like float on the river, or sometimes we go to the Sunriver Brewery there too. The float there is one you kind of have to find- you would drive in on S. Century Drive off Highway 97 from Bend, then you'd cross a wooden bridge and the road's name is now Spring River. From there you take your first left onto Lunar and have to find a place to get in the river. You float back to the bridge, about 45 minutes. Then you have to walk back to your car :) It's very fun though! and you're close to lots of places to go hiking- you can head down to Paulina and East Lakes further south by maybe 20 minutes or up near Mt. Bachelor and the lakes surrounding it.

Up near Mt. Bachelor some of my favorite activities to do are: -Hikes: a classic beautiful summer hike is the Greenlakes Hike, which there is a sign for after you pass Mt Bachelor and continue on Cascade Lakes Highway -Lakes: Sparks Lake, Elk Lake, or other lakes also nearby are fun to explore with paddling activities and to take a picnic and chairs for the day, especially on very hot days! The air is slightly less hot up here :)
