A beautiful stop at the base of the Black Cuillin. There are good paths through the glens and up the surrounding hills and mountains. The hotel restaurant and the bar next door are also great stops for food and drink.

There are two ways to reach this secluded loch, which has some of our favourite views and walks. Option one- travel by boat from Elgol. Option two - walk from sligachan Either way makes for a spectacular adventure. From the cottage I’d usually recommend booking a boat with Misty Isles, or Bella Jane.

A fantastic walk along the side of the dramatic cliffs and rock formations of the Trotternish Ridge. You can easily hop out for the car and stroll 10 minutes to enjoy the amazing views, or continue to walk the full loop which takes around 2 hours from the car park.

Lovely 45 minute walk down to the coral beach, which almost looks tropical (although the weather rarely matches it, so wrap up warm!)

A great local spot for a hot drink, a slice of cake, or an ice cream! The Noost is a takeaway service with outdoor seating, so perfect in a nice day or if you’re catching the ferry to Raasay.

A great place to stop off for lunch, particularly if you’re visiting the castle. They also have a deli attached if you fancy picking up some special ingredients for dinner. It gets busy so book in advance, or there’s likely to be a wait.

Neighbourhoods

Dunvegan is a small village on the north of the island. You may pass through on the way to Dunvegan Castle, Neist Point, or Coral Beach. The village has everything you need - restaurants, corner shops and a deli, a tiny museum and a petrol station. Bear in mind that its size means it can be very busy through most of the year. Book ahead for restaurants and expect a queue for shops.

Consejos para la ciudad

Qué debes empacar

Bring shoes with good grip, and ideally waterproof

Walking boots, wellies or sturdy trainers are a must for your trip. Even good paths on the island often drift into bogs, so sturdy footwear will make all the difference!
Qué debes empacar

Pack a good waterproof

The weather changes quickly on Skye, so even if you set out with glorious blue skies, it may catch you off-guard with a quick 10 minute hail storm! Bring a good waterproof jacket and a warm layer to keep with you as you explore.
Facilidad para moverse por la casa

Distances can be deceptive when driving

Many of the roads on Skye twist and wind, or are single track and can take longer than you’d expect. Always allow a bit of extra time for your drive, particularly if you have reservations, or bookings for a fixed time.
Antes de que te vayas

Talisker Distillery

Tours of the distillery book up early, so book on their website before your trip. They sometimes have cancellations on the day and their shop and tasting room is available without booking.
