A 10 minute drive from the house is our local store where you can find just about everything you need from fresh produce, food, toiletries, flip flops, etc. It's a little pricey, but convenient. For a large food shopping, drive to Oakhurst for Vons, Raley's , restaurants, etc. 28420 Yosemite Springs Pkwy, Coarsegold, CA 93614

Erna's Elderberry House is Hotel Chateau Sureau's in-house restaurant. This is one of the most high-end restaurants in the area, great for a special occasion. Heavily French, or French influenced cuisine. Tres elegant. Call and see if they're are doing their traditional afternoon British High Tea while you're here!

Next to Hillside Market, this is a neighborhood favorite with the locals-- This darling little cafe is run by local residents, Rich and Athena. She brings the Greek influence to their food, and he brings the Italian. It's delicious, all home-made and healthy. The place is super cute, and has a little thrift store attached to boot. Open at 10 AM 28420 Yosemite Springs Pkwy #i, Coarsegold, CA 93614

I volunteer there and can tell you that if you love animals, you will love taking a tour and meeting everyone! Pet an African Serval or a bobcat, hold a raptor, get kissed by Spring the fox, or cuddle with Jake the snake! Call to book a tour by looking them up online. The sanctuary relies 100% on donations.

City/town information

Every year from mid-October to mid-November, tarantula mating season takes place. Coarsegold used to be known for being able to see dozens of tarantulas at once crossing the roads, but with fires and climate change, it's now rare to see any. Locals go out of their way to respect and protect these docile tarantulas during this time. The Annual Coarsegold Tarantula Mating Season Festival is held in late October the Saturday before Halloween, including tarantula racing, a competition for the hairiest legs of both men and women, and a pumpkin dessert contest. What's not to love?! Coarsegold is a historic gold mining town, with its first gold discovered in 1849. It's tiny, quaint and peppered with little shops and antique stores. It's a great starting place for your Yosemite destination, and a destination in and of itself. It's also home to Chukchansi Casino with its wide variety of restaurants and entertainment.
