Three months after top chef Geert Van Hecke closed his 3 star De Karmeliet, he is already behind the stove again. The warmly furnished Zet'joe- West-Flemish for 'warm welcome', with the undertone of 'make it especially easy' - is more accessible, a lot smaller, has less kitchen staff and has a (smaller) menu that goes back 'to the time of the past with the knowledge and experience of today '. Expect, among other things, dishes that he put on the map of De Karmeliet for the first time thirty years ago and now reinterpret with other products and techniques. A refined upgrade of 'rabbit with plums' for example.

The Siphon has become one of the most atmospheric and cozy restaurants in the Flemish countryside. The fresh eel is still the specialty of the house. Just a few kilometers from Damme, Knokke and Bruges, a dinner in the Siphon is definitely worth it.

His abode was the The Four Winds, a striking villa commissioned by the artist himself and built, for its time, in extremely modern design. Today it is the location of the Permeke Museum, where the visitor can wander around the artist’s living quarters as well as his garden and former studios. The 'Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde' with its white-coloured house fronts and tranquil convent garden was founded in 1245. This little piece of world heritage was once the home of the beguines, emancipated lay-women who nevertheless led a pious and celibate life. Today the beguinage is inhabited by nuns of the Order of St. Benedict and several Bruges women who have decided to remain unmarried. In the Beguine's house, you can still get a good idea of what day-to-day life was like in the 17th century.

This 19th century castle, situated in the middle of a stunning English landscape garden and containing an authentic maze, has played a prominent role in Belgian history. In October 1918, during the final liberation offensive of the First World War, King Albert I moved his headquarters to Loppem. A month later, the so called ‘Government of Loppem’ – the very first three-party alliance in Belgium – was formed here. Both the architecture and the original design of the castle are exceptionally well preserved and the art collection is very impressive. Particularly noteworthy are the wall paintings with captions by the poet Guido Gezelle
