“De Kelders” is the Afrikaans name for The Caves. Numerous larger and smaller caves penetrate deep into the rock formations under the houses of De Kelders. The De Kelders cave is the only freshwater cave next to the coast of Africa, which has been changed into a swimming place. It has natural mineral water and was first visited in 1798 by lady Anne Barnard. It is also a great place to watch whales(in case you do not see them at Pearly Beach)

Just before reaching the Uilenkraalsmond Resort(from Pearly Beach), you will cross a bridge over the Boesman's(Bushmen's) river and wetlands. If you are lucky, you might see the pelicans doing their thing. Alternatively its a great place to pick a sand island and spend a few hours in the shallow water - definitely a great place to go with your young-ones.

The Danger Point lighthouse was commissioned on 1 January 1895 after the tragic sinking of the HMS Birkenhead Troopship, on the dreadful night of 26 February 1852. This amazing building with its three light flashes every 40 seconds is open to the public weekdays from 10 am till 3 pm. Not only will you be able to view this wonderful structure, but you can climb up into the tower soaring 18,3 meters in the sky. You will be able to view the source of the astonishing light beam intensity of 4750 000 candlelight.

Great for a windy or rainy day - take the "B-Bos-road" drive from Baardskeerdersbos to Uilenkraalsmond. A great scenic drive through the valley with beautiful farms ranging from cattle, sheep, vineyards and horses. If you not mind gravel road, you can drive directly from Pearly Beach -> Baardskeerdersbos(gravel road of 9,7km) -and then Baardskeerdersbos -> Uilenkraalsmond -> back to Pearly Beach. You can stop at Marietjie's Restaurant for breakfast or lunch or visit a wine farm en route.

for a windy, rainy day...go for a daytrip to the Southernmost Tip of Africa. It is approximately 75 minutes drive (77km) from Pearly Beach, but keep in mind that there is some gravel road en-route and allow for extra time as there might be road maintenance or the odd cattle/sheep been driven from one end of the road to the other. While doing the trip, you can also stop at the Aghulhas Lighthouse. On your way back from the lighthouse, why not stop at the Black Oyster Catcher Wine farm - excellent wines with great food!

Parks & Nature

If you have a 4 x 4 vehicle, then this will be a good exploration trip, as you get to parts of the beach that very few people get to see, including "Donkergat", "Soetfontein" and "Die Kombuis". You can walk towards the Nature Reserve along the beach and decide yourself how far you would like to walk - its beautiful. Remember to check the weather, take food and water and remember you have to walk back again. Otherwise by 4 x 4 vehicle, you can access from the R43, but you will be driving through bushes and your vehicle will pick-up scratches from bushes, so be aware..
