Restaurant Recommendations
Excellent service, nice outdoor patio with people watching, great gourmet burgers and other well prepared bar food and local micro brews, make this a great place to eat, drink and relax without breaking the bank. Applebee's pricing, but much better food and experience.

If you enjoy sushi, you will love Ali'i Poke. Poke, if you are not familiar, is kind of like an open sushi bowl. Many of the same ingredients, fresh raw fish, seaweed, wasabi, sushi rice, etc., but served as a bowl, not rolled like sushi. This place is super clean, friendly and to portions are generous. I swear you end up getting twice as much food as the same money spent at a sushi place.

Sightseeing
This is a really nice downtown amenity. The Downtown Canal Walk has a 3-mile walkng loop popular for fitness enthusiasts and serenity-seekers alike. Beautifully landscaped with well planned condos, commercial and government buildings and museums along the way, this Downtown waterfront is dotted with pedal boats and gondolas, bicycles, surreys, kayaks and even Segways. You can rent all of them. There are sculptures and people doing yoga and other fitness practices. There are people chilling in hammocks or practicing music or picnicking. You may catch a free concert or some other public event going on. Definitely worth checking out. http://www.canalwalkindy.com/

A Reminder About the Area
As mentioned in my listing, this area is rapidly gentrifying; that means major investments are being made by businesses, local government, non-profit organizations, entrepreneurs, private individuals, longtime residents and others into this area. So you will likely see multiple houses undergoing restoration on just about every street in the area. You will also likely see some that have already been restored and others that still need restoration. It is a work in progress. And if you go about 4 blocks to the east and cross Rural Street, you will notice that the restoration activity is much less noticeable and that the aesthetics quickly decline. There are actually some gems to the east, like the Steer in Diner and some cool antique hardware stores like Audrey's Place and Tim & Julie's Another Fine Mess. But I have to warn you that there is also a lot more urban blight and poverty as you travel east and statistically more crime. Of course we are downtown in a major metropolitan American city, so there is risk of crime anywhere, but it does increase as you move a travel to the east, just so you know, my friend. So I recommend shopping and dining and exploring the venues to the West. ;-)
