Hans Krijnen, a master baker from Holland, has been furnishing this community with delicious fresh pastries, breads and treats for years. He and his wife Jennifer have created a charming cafe in the bakery, painted bright Dutch yellow and blue, where you can run in for morning pastries, including Hans' signature Stroopwaffles, or at lunchtime sit down for a delicious cup of soup made with locally sourced ingredients, accompanied by a crusty croissant filled with ham and cheese. Cakes, fruit tarts, chocolate silk pies, Tiramisu, and gluten free baked goods also. The Bakery is located at the fork of Main Street/Route 9 and Burgess Road on the east side of town.

Arts & Culture

An extraordinary collection of old and new art---Grandma Moses paintings, early American pottery and glass, Mid-20th century moderns, Helen Frankenthaler, Pat Adams, et al. A jewel of a museum--small enough that you don't grow weary...but chock-full of history and well-curated exhibits. If you are lucky enough to meet Jamie Franklin, the curator, you will be educated, enlightened, and intrigued.

Drinks & Nightlife

Beautiful bar and restaurant in an old Vermont frame house in tiny, charming North Bennington. Dining al fresco on the terrace in the back is great in summer. Good drinks, inexpensive and delicious bar menu.... this is where the Bennington College crowd goes... you might see literati, painters, carpenters, farmers, actors, college professors and poets all in one night.
