A few things to do

An absolute MUST is a visit to Waipoua Forest where Tane Mahuta lives. Lord of the Forest. The largest living kauri in the world. Estimated to be over 2000 years old. Head towards Dargaville for approximately 10km. It’s not far from waimamaku. You can’t miss it as it’s a major attraction with parking & signs. Take a water taxi from the Opononi wharf & to the golden sand dunes & slide down the once you e caught your breath after walking up them first.
It’s an incredible thought that he is 2000 plus years old & he is so stately & beUtiful that you can’t get this close & not visit him

This is a lovely collaborative for local artists to be able to sell their works when they normally struggle to get them seen by potential art customers.

Approximately a 25 minute drive to The quaint & tiny historical township of Rawene From here you can jump on the car ferry which you can board with your car & take the short trip across the harbour to another historical town Kohukohu on the northern side of the Hokianga harbour From there you can explore the bay of islands, & beyond. The car ferry saves having to drive to the top of the harbour to get to the Bay of Isalands.

Neighborhoods

Hokianga South has both Opononi & Omapere & are only 2.5 km apart from each other. Both are seaside communities. Incredible landscapes surrounding the entire Hokianga Harbour. A few shops but they are limited.
