My favorite things to do

Hello fellow travelers! I just wanted to share a few of my favorite things to do in the area. Hiking or biking one of the several trails or bike routes in the area is an option for the adventurer. If you aren't a hiker, you can still catch a lift up to San Jacinto Peak via the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Views of the valley are great, without the need for hiking boots. My favorite place to have brunch is Pinocchio's in Palm Springs. There are 5 casinos within a 20 mile radius from here and they always have great entertainment. If you love to shop, try the outlets in Cabazon, take a stroll in Downtown Palm Springs or El Paseo in Palm Desert. The living desert is a fun option for families. Art, art, everywhere! I recommend google searching "Palm Springs Life Calendar". It is a great resource for daily events all around the Coachella Valley.

Sightseeing

Cabot Yerxa was an incredible man who led a life of adventure. Born June 11, 1883, Cabot lived throughout the United States from New York to Alaska to California. He traveled the world including Europe, Cuba, and South America. He was a businessman, artist, and human rights activist with a special focus on the legal, economic, and cultural crisis facing Native American tribes. In October 1913, at the age of 30, Cabot arrived in the Coachella Valley and began his homesteading journey with 160 acres in Desert Hot Springs. In need of water, he dug a well near his home and discovered hot mineral water right outside his door. 600 yards away he dug another well and discovered the pure cold water of the Mission Springs Aquifer. The two wells, one hot and one cold, led Cabot to name his homestead Miracle Hill. In 1941 he began building the Pueblo in its current location using materials from his original home. He worked on this home and museum until his death in 1965. Cabot was an active artist and art collector. He built the Pueblo as a museum with the intention of displaying his impressive collection of Native American art and artifacts as well as souvenirs of his travels and his own works of art. Cabot is one of the three men who are credited with the founding of the city of Desert Hot Springs. He saw the area’s potential upon his arrival in 1913 and worked with other businessmen and entrepreneurs to develop the city. He was often referred to as “Mr. Desert Hot Springs.” Check site for covid updates. Currently offering virtual tours only.

"The Integratron is a dome-shaped structure constructed out of plywood and fiberglass by George Van Tassel. He built the structure in Landers, California, USA as a "rejuvenation machine" supposedly following instructions provided by visitors from the planet Venus." If sci-fi healing is what you seek, go here! I have to admit, I did walk out of there feeling incredibly grounded and balanced. This is another spot that is 45 minutes away so I'd recommend including it in your Joshua Tree NP day.

15 minute ride from the desert floor up into the clouds! There are trails to explore once you are up there and the tram station hosts a restaurant with views. Be sure to pack a jacket. Mt. San Jacinto is a lot cooler than the desert. **Check tram status before heading up there. Advanced ticket sales only. Tram was recently closed due to COVID**

This is a local gem of a restaurant. BBQ and live music make this western landmark a must visit spot. Pioneertown is known for being a favorite filming location for classic western movies. It is a 45 minute drive from the house so I'd recommend going on your way to or from Joshua Tree National Park.
