Tourist attractions

The Cable Car is Tromsø’s most popular tourist destination. It runs from Solliveien in Tromsdalen up to the mountain ledge Storsteinen. The lower station is located on Tromsø’s mainland, 50 m above sea level, while the upper station, Fjellstua, is situated at an altitude of 421 m above sea level. The trip up takes just four minutes. From the large outdoor terrace, you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of Tromsø and the virtually endless sight of islands, fjords, mountains and the open sea. Fjellheisen was built in 1961 by Brødrene Jakobsens Rederi, a local shipping company that was a major player in arctic hunting/trapping, fishing and expeditions to the arctic and Antarctic. The gondolas proudly convey this tradition by bearing the shipping company’s symbols: the polar bear and the seal. At the top, you can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and a signature Norwegian waffle while admiring the view.

Take a nice walk from the city center over the Tromsø bridge to look at some modern church architecture. The Arctic Cathedral is a daring piece of architecture built in 1965, inspired by Arctic nature. The "Return of Christ" glass mosaic window dominates the interior. There are midnight sun concerts at midnight during the summer.

My favorite hiking trails

This is the tallest mountain in the Tromsø area with its 1238 meters above sea level. It's best to climb it in the summer time. I would only recommend this trip to people in good physical shape as it is a trip that takes 4-7 hours (depending on speed).

This small mountin gives you a lot of view for little effort! Located right above the Ersfjord you get a beautiful view of the fjord, as well as you can see the city in the distance behind you... Driving here takes about 20 min.

VERY BEAUTIFUL view from this top. The hike is a little steep, so I wouldn't go here if I was a newbeginner. The trails starts in Rekvika which is about an hour drive from the city center.

These stairs take you straight to "Tromsø's roof"/Fløya/Fjellheisen, which rages 421 meters above sea level, giving you an amazing view of the Tromsø island and the islands surrounding it. You can get there by walking over from the city center and over the bridge to the main land, or by taking the bus (route 26) from the city center.
