Dalemain Historic Mansion and Gardens

Just 20 minutes from Linden Farm House this historic house is a treasure trove of delights. Lovely courtyard cafe and free parking. There is a 5 mile walk from the house to Pooley Bridge where you can have lunch over looking Ullswater then a walk back to Dalemain. Highly recommended, mostly flat walk, and varied through fields, woods and paths. You will also pass Dacre Castle on this walk.
Langwathby is our nearest village and is lovely spot to relax on the village green with a coffee and a cake from Saddlebacks or a beer and a pub lunch from the Shepherd's Inn. Its a 30 minute walk to Langwathby or a 5 minute car journey, there is plenty of parking. The Shepherds Inn- Langwathby – Our nearest pub a short drive or a 30 minute walk away to the village of Langwathby. Serves lovely pub meals inside and outside on the village green. You can also order a takeaway on Friday or Saturday nights. We recommend the Wathby Whale – an extra large fish and chips, really excellent quality. The road continues to Alston, England’s highest market town.

Penrith is the nearest town regarded as the capital of Cumbria set in the lush Eden Valley. It has a 14th century castle set on a grassy meadow, a museum and a range of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. To the North is Beacon Hill with its Penrith Beacon monument and panoramic views. To the South of the town is the Norman Brougham Castle and the prehistoric monument of Mayburgh Henge. Penrith has a good range of supermarkets including a Booths, Marks and Spencers, Morrisons, Sainsburys and Aldi. It is possible to get supermarket deliveries to Linden Farm House. There are a number of carparks in the town and a lovely range of small independent shops. Penrith Leisure Centre, Southend Road, CA11 8JH tel: 01768 863450 The leisure centre includes a climbing wall, swimming pool and a gym.

You might have seen Chris Packham on TV visiting the Lingholm estate to walk with the alpacas. It is a beautiful country estate with a fantastic restaurant. You can catch a boat from Keswick across Ullswater to the Lingholm Jetty, or Hawes End Jetty its a short trip across lovely Ullswater have a short walk through the wooded estate then have lunch at the Lingholm Kitchen, you will not be disappointed, the food is excellent.
