The hike to the Wisdom Tree (aka Tree of Life) is only 0.5 miles, but very steep! From this ridgeline, you can walk to the Hollywood Sign (0.7 miles) and even Griffith Observatory (3.8 miles).
If you decide to the full ridge to the Observatory, remember that you can hike down from there directly into Los Feliz (1.5 miles) or Thai Town (1.8 miles) and Little Armenia (2.2 miles) by way of Fern Dell, which is a truly amazing short stretch of canopy forest.
Again, if you want more specifics, please don't hesitate to ask.

If you want to head up into the mountains, this is a great hike. The drive brings you up windy Angeles Crest Highway. It's about a 30 minute drive if you venture out early.
The hike is through mid-elevation pine forest (1.5 miles to Switzer Falls).
If you keep hiking along the ridge above the falls, you'll get to an intersection. One of the signs says "Altadena - 18 miles" (or maybe it's 16). Altadena is where Eaton Canyon is and is the town just north of Pasadena. So, yes, you could walk all the way up into the mountains, which becomes apparent once you notice that this amazing forest is in eye-shot of your guest suite in Montecito Heights.

While it's usually faster to simply hop in a cab, it is quite easy to access public transit.
The 81 bus picks up on Figueroa and 43. The stop by Jack in the Box goes north into Highland Park. The stop across Figueroa brings you through Chinatown and into downtown.
The Metro Gold Line - Southwest Museum stop - is 0.8 miles away. From Figueroa and 43, turn right on Figueroa. You'll pass the Superior Grocer and should be on that side of the street. A few blocks later, take a left on Woodside Dr (it's a small street) and you're at the Metro station.
