lovely café with a huge gin selection. They have a beautiful outdoor courtyard and plenty of tables inside. They have an ever changing menu and is a nice change from the standard sea side food. some good options for vegetarians and vegans!

A small but amazing place! Every pie is delicious, there are plenty to choose from but some of the favourites do sell out quick! All pies are served with mash and either mushy peas or garden. There are also a couple of kids options (sausage and mash etc). Please note you can also get your pie to go if there is a wait for tables!

this is the top-rated restaurant in Whitby, I can’t give you a personal recommendation as it’s very difficult to get a table and they only allow small bookings. I’ve heard great things and look forward to trying it soon! make sure you book ahead!

Lovely cafe, great for lunch, dogs are allowed in the lounge area. They do some great cakes and desserts!!

This is actually one of my favourite Chinese places ever and I’ve had a few… Unfortunately they don’t deliver but, like everything, it is in walking distance of the cottage if you’d like to collect or the restaurant does have some good views from the west cliff if you go when it’s still light.

This is a beer shop as well as a small bar. They serve small unusual cask beers and this is definitely the place to go if you’re an ale/beer fan as these guys really know their stuff. You can buy beers in their shop and drink them in the bar or order from their ever changing cask beers.

4-5 Grape LnThis is a beer shop as well as a small bar. They serve small unusual cask beers and this is definitely the place to go if you’re an ale/beer fan as these guys really know their stuff. You can buy beers in their shop and drink them in the bar or order from their ever changing cask beers.

2-4 Skinner StThis is a great family/dog friendly bar. they serve small craft beer and cider which regularly changes, however one of their resident beers, the raspberry wheat beer, is our favourite!
There are also lots of gins if beer isn't your thing.

This is 30 seconds from the front door and does some great breakfast options, including pancakes! it's great for gluten free and veggies too.

At the end of your road you will find Botham's, a lovely bakery doing everything from cakes and breads to sandwiches. There is a lovely old cafe above the shop, they do a great breakfast and I've also heard some good things about their afternoon tea but I've not had chance to try it yet.

located just over the bridge on the left hand side as you walk up the road is Robertson’s. Here you can get Vegetarian chips (99% of the chips in Whitby are cooked in the traditional way, in beef dripping) along with Vegan options. They also have lots of deep-fried things here including chocolate….

Whitby Abbey can be seen from most places in Whitby. Head up the 199 steps (you have to count them all, it's the rules!) to the old church and Abbey. If you get a bit thirsty after your walk, follow the road behind the Abbey to find Whitby Brewery.

If the tide is out you can walk the 2 miles to Sandsend on the beach and treat yourself to a nice lunch when you get there, we love The Hart Inn. You can take the bus back in to Whitby or do the reverse walk along the top of the cliff.

I recommend catching the train to Goathland, then walk back to Grosmont, it’s a 2.5/3hrs walk following the old train track through the woods. If you do opt for the walk, there is a tiny pub at Beck Hole to stop for a pint and a few pubs in Grosmont to whet your whistle before you catch the train back to Whitby.
Alternatively (and cheaper) just take the kids down to the station to see the trains come in and go...

there is a replica of the Captain Cook's boat the Endeavour down in the harbour, great for the kids to have a walk around on and there is also a cafe down below...

a lovely walk to a natural waterfall, it's pretty special if it's rained the day before or if it's cold it's know to freeze! Take the steam train to Goathland and walk through the village until you get to Mallyan Spout Hotel and follow the public footpath down the side.

lovely old school mini golf course, great for the family! it's on top of the west cliff with amazing views out to sea. There is also a 18 hole golf course just outside Whitby also with amazing views!
