There is a nice 5km roundtrip walk here. You can read about the first ever hydro-electric station in Australia, which used to power up the historic gold-mining town of Hillgrove.
Picnic tables and barbecues available.
Also, there is a pathway which leads down into the gorge to a swimming hole which is popular among locals. (Note: Steep descent to get down to the swimming holes.)

This is a 6km loop walk about an hours drive from Armidale. You could hike this in 1.5 - 2 hours. There are beautiful views of the New England tablelands from the top of Cathedral Rock.

Walking distance from my house is a lookout spot which looks out over Armidale. Nice views of the city and a great place to go to watch the sun setting.

This pine forest is less than a 10 minute drive from town. It is a popular place to go for a walk or to go mountain biking.

If you are looking to try some craft beers, this is a nice quiet pub in town which brews it's own craft beers just outside of Armidale. You will see locals and international people here having a drink and maybe playing chess.

If it's a sunny day and you're looking for a drink, this pub has the best beer garden in town and also a rooftop terrace. It also does decent pub food as well.
