This one is special because the food is fantastic and the bill is reasonable considering how good the cooking is. The restaurant is in the building that housed the official stamp distribution office that the poet William Wordsworth ran.

This one is special because the food is fantastic and the bill is reasonable considering how good the cooking is. Wonderful, unusual crispy pizzas, decent coffee, huge slices of cake, very very popular and you can’t book so just turn up and queue. It’s well worth it.

Possibly the most beautiful valley in the Lake District. There is a lovely four mile walk around the perimeter which at one point travels through a tunnel cut through the rock face. Try Syke Farm Cafe at the end. They make their own ice cream with milk donated by their cows.

Loweswater has a different, even more remote vibe than Buttermere or Crummock. On one side you walk through a wood that was literally designed by William Wordsworth. On the other side there is a quiet road you can walk along. But the real walkers take the route over Holme Wood which has lovely views.
