Sightseeing

The drive to the village is spectacular. A trip up to Loch Coruisk is not to be missed. Regular sightings of seals, dolphins and sea eagles, with occasional whales and other sea creatures too. Guests are able to disembark and spend time exploring, before heading back to Elgol. it is so good we book on as often as we can.

One of our 'Go To' places, lots to see and do, otters, seals and flora and fauna. Walk up to the viewing point and get an incredible 360 degrees view. Lots of different short walks to choose to do.

Excellent place to go for a long or short walk. Parking on the right hand side of the road from Kyle will see you walking in the woodland with a sea view, you can pick your way down to the waters edge if you are careful. Taking the left hand parking from the road sees walking in more dense woodland.

This is a great place to go for a wee walk, you have 2 paths to choose from, the lower less steep walk or the top, narrower drovers path. Either way it is a stunning walk, with a great view of the ruined village at the end. The parking space for the walk is in the forest and is listed as a Dark Sky point.

A 20 or 30 minute walk or short drive from the cabin finds you at Ashaig beach, you can paddle, swim or sit on the rocks and watch the seals, otters and wild birds. Often you are the only person on the beach, it never gets busy, even in the height of the summer.

This really is a magical place, we as a family love to visit here, though in the height of the season it gets very, very busy. We love it, it is an incredible place, like the Highlands of Scotland only in miniature. Please though, don't make stone towers, or move any of the stones to make 'trails' it is magical because it is so natural, every stone folk move upsets the natural balance, it deprives beasties of their already established homes, causes soil erosion and adds to local climate change !

This is a great walk, I managed it fine, it's on a fairly good wide pathway, though there is a bit of a scramble up and along the fence line at the end to get to the horseshoe beach, but it is worth it. Take a sandwich and a wee drink and enjoy it. We went in the height of the season, but it was through lockdown, so I'm guessing it gets busier.

Consejos para la ciudad

Facilidad para moverse por la casa

Postcodes don't really work here

Due to the old crofting system here on Skye, many houses, streets and sometimes whole villages share postal codes and even house numbers. For example we are IV42 8QA but so are all the houses in our village, there are at least three number 16 Lower Breakish, that's why when I give you directions, I will always point you to the G o o g l e Maps Pin for Skye Coorie Cabin, that way the GPS co-ordinates will lead you straight to our door.
Formas de ahorrar

The Co-op supermarket in Broadford has a petrol station.

The Co-op supermarket has a petrol/diesel station, it is the cheapest place on the island, and cheaper than Kyle, so fill up here before you go touring and certainly before you leave Skye.

Smidge or Avon Skin So Soft

Midges bite... we don't get too many here at the cabin as there is normally a wee breeze off the sea to whisk them away, but if you are going to the Fairy Glen for example, you might need some repellent - Smidge is found in the Co-op and it works well, it smells quite nice but is expensive. If you can get your hands on Avons Skin So Soft moisturiser this also works really well (it seems to dissolve the wee blighters on contact, so not sure what it does for skin, but to be honest when the midgies bite, you don't really care!!
