130 meter waterfall in the middle of a dense tropical forest
Our favorite beach in Las Terrenas. Only 5o meters from villa. Playa Las Ballenas is a long stretch of white sand, palm tree lined beach. Great mix of natural beauty and amenities. Many restaurants along the beach road and on the beach itself. Follow along this beach for a 20 minute walk into town. Water is clear and typically calm. Decent snorkeling spots can be found along the reef in shallow water not far from shore. Water depth is shallow, but deep enough to swim easily. Great for families.

Incredible waterfall you can swim in. Along the trail there is beautiful scenery and other smaller waterfalls. Can be done by hike or on horseback and a tour guide is highly recommended. 30 minutes from villa.

Playa Bonita is a short drive (10 minutes) from the villa. It was named one of the stop 10 beaches in the world by National Geographic. It is also a neighborhood with restaurants along the paved walkway adjacent to the beach. Great place to swim and enjoy a nice lunch. We recommend Mosquito Hotel for lunch and Hotel Atlantis for dinner here. Waves on the west side offer surfing and boogie boarding with tranquil shallow waters on the east end of the crescent.

Long stretch of beach east of the city center in Las Terrenas. Along this beach there are places for kite surfing, snorkeling, and relaxing under the palms. East to find a secluded spot all to yourself. Water tends to be calm and shallow. Mangroves can be found along the edge of the beach, home to many colorful fish and sea creatures. Porto is a fantastic restaurant along the beach and Mosquito beach bar has a great atmosphere too.

Playa Coson is a very long stretch of beach west of the city center of Las Terrenas, about 20 minutes from villa. It is a long crescent beach surrounded by verdant hills and swaying palms. The east side closer to Punta Bonita has calm water, but this is the beach with the largest waves in the area. There are beachside restaurants and luxury villas Ali g this beach. We recommend Restaurant Luis. There is also a river that lets out on the western end. Please note there is frequently a dangerous riptide in the area in front of restaurant Luis, so be cautious.

This is a road trip destination. About an hour and a half away. Nice way to spend a day is the drive to Playa Rico’s and check out towns of Samana and Las Galeras along the way. Beautiful beach, rated one of the best in the world. Very large, so easy to find a spot to yourself. Surrounded by lush mountains with a swimmable river at the northern end, Rio Caño Frio.

Transportation to and around Las Terrenas

We recommend taking a taxi to the villa and airport transfers can be arranged by contacting us. You may also rent a car at the airport. There are also car rentals in town if you wish to rent upon arrival. Many locals use ATVs and motor-scooters to get around, and you will see yellow vests on the Motoconchos (motorbike taxi drivers). Using motoconchos is the most economical way to get around. ATVs are also available to rent locally if you do not plan on traveling outside of town. There are Caribe Tour buses available https://caribetours.com.do/
