Use WAZE not Google Maps
While the distance between locations may only be 50 miles (80KM) it can take considerable time to travel based on traffic, road conditions and posted speed limits. Costa Rica is beautiful, relax and give yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination. Our Casita is approximately 45 minutes from Guanacaste Int'l Airport when traveling via the "Monkey Road" in the dry season. Add approximately 25 minutes when driving thru Belen/Huacus.
Costumbres y cultura
Use Colones not Dollars.
The conversion rate as of today March 10, 2022 is 642 Colones to the Dollar. Retail establishments will give you 620/$1 (not significant but worth noting).
ATM's are readily available - check your account after use if you did not receive money (a common scam) banks can work it out but it takes a week or so.
Retail establishments charge 13% Tax and 10% gratuity (which is to be shared across the entire staff/kitchen/dishwasher etc) A cash tip on the table is greatly appreciated by your server.
Credit Cards are accepted everywhere - watch out for the additional fee from your bank/card.
