Take the Fort Fisher Ferry (which is 2 miles south of the condo) over to the town of Southport for the day. It's a very old waterfront town with many shops. Great for just walking around and browsing through the shops. When you are there, you must eat at The Provision Company. Right on the water, not fancy, but it's the hottest spot in Southport. Plan to wait 30-60 mins minimally, but it's worth it. You can drink beers while you wait and it's on the honor system! Yes, at the end of your meal you tell them how many beers you grabbed from the fridges during your time there. Make sure the weather is nice for Southport.

The NC aquarium is about a mile south of the condo. The kids will really love this place! Great thing to do on a rainy day. They say in Kure Beach, if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes. It's true. It can pour down rain for ten minutes and be gorgeous rest of day so watch the forecasts.

You can do this during the day or night. There are shops to walk around and visit as well as many restaurants. They have an arcade for the kids. They also have live music and fireworks in the Summer on Thursday nights.

Wilmington. It's a good 40 minutes away, but if you wanna get off the island for a day, it's very nice. It's all riverfront shops and restaurants. You can take a small boat tour, have ice cream or eat at Elijah's. Elijah's is pricey so watch out.
