Most amazing views and we consider a “Must Do” while visiting this area. Just a short beautiful drive on the Parkway going North towards Grandfather Mountain you will come to this section of the Parkway. There are plenty of pull offs to take in views as well as hiking trails. You will pass a parking area on your right before the Viaduct which will be Beacon Heights Trail. There is a sign showing the trail. Rough Ridge hiking trail is just past the Viaduct and on your left at the parking lot. Further down you will pass Julian Price Lake where there are boat rentals and walking trails around the lake. A picnic area along water will be just up on the left. This is where you can access Boone Fork Trail. A lot you can do within a 30 min drive along the Parkway.

Linn Cove Viaduct

3 Orchard RdWiseman’s View is breathtaking. One of our favorites. The road leading is gravel and can have ruts along the way depending on rain. But we’ll worth the drive. Once you arrive at the parking lot there is a paved walk that will lead you to the viewing area.

Waterfalls
Local waterfalls. Most within an aprox 30 min drive or less.
One of the most visited waterfalls in the area and most beautiful. There are several trail options. Erwin’s view will take you to the top of the falls where the water will be rushing in front of you through gigantic boulders. Plunge basin trail will be to the left of the visitors station and will take you to the bottom of the waterfall into the gorge. Just amazing views. It’s a little more strenuous than the other 2 trails but we’ll worth it.

This falls is located on the Boone Fork Trail. The closest to the falls entrance to the trail is just off the parkway at the Julian Price Lake park. Here you can enter the trail to reach the falls. This is a 5 mile loop trail.
