Wildlife Refuge
Local animals and plants abound
The refuge contains over 6,000 acres of pastures, tidal swamps, brushy woodlots, marshes and sloughs along the Columbia River in both Washington and Oregon. Diverse habitats that support the endangered Columbian white-tailed deer also benefit a large variety of wintering and migratory birds Roosevelt elk, river otters, reptiles and amphibians, nesting bald eagles, great horned owls and osprey. The main unit of the refuge is located along Highway 4 in Cathlamet at:

Puget Island is very flat and a popular ride for cycling, as it’s about 2 miles wide and 7 miles long. While there are no bike lanes, the majority of the island is not on the highway so the roads are pretty quiet and bike friendly.

Located on the Oregon Coast about 30 minutes north of the Westport ferry, this wonderful, historic Oregon port city has plenty of attractions: the Columbia River Maritime Museum, the Oregon Film Museum, a movie theater, Fort Stevens State Park (on an old military base), historical parks & monuments based on Lewis & Clark's journeys, the Liberty Theater live performance venue, the riverfront trolley, several microbreweries, and the Astoria Column - an historic 125 tower with panoramic views of the ocean and river.
