El Alma has a fantastic HH from 3-6 every day. The white Sangria is a favorite and selection of tasty appetizers at good prices. The roof deck is lovely and it's only 2 1/2 blocks away!

Almost entirely Gluten Free and delicious. It's a regular stop for us. Open for coffee in the mornings and the Thai-twist on breakfast tacos is 👍. The Thai basil lime agua-fresca is a standout as well as a very large selection of gluten free pastries that won't disappoint (my favorite is the oatmeal cream pie) and non-dairy ice cream.

IMHO, THE best breakfast tacos in the city. The size won't disappoint, the price is excellent and the fire-roasted salsa from the salsa bar (the dark one) is beyond amazing 👌. Honestly I could put it on anything and it would be good! It's a super casual place, good for families because it won't break the bank and the food is great. If your up for a stroll its about a 15 min walk. It can get busy so go early.

One of our favorite HHs and just generally outstanding Italian with a beautiful shady patio and relaxed upscale decor. HH is 7 days a week from 3-6 and features signature drinks and bites. Some standouts you wouldn't expect - the salmon crudo and the octopus (not on the HH menu) - are both 👌. The pizza is one of my son's favorites too!

If you love your desserts, then no trip to Bouldlin should end without a stop at the Gourdough's trailer for some truly decadent, absolutely HUGE desert doughnuts. I'm talking like 2-4 people can eat one depending on your appetite. The cherry bombs are 👌👍, but all the flavors are sinfully sweet and absolutely delicious ... just don't count your calories 😅

Mattie's has to make two appearances in any good Bouldin guide. Not only is it known for its peacocks, but they serve up a mean southern brunch, milk punch and all. Reservations are recommended.

Kids & Family

Just down the hill from the house, Butler Park is a fantastic place to hang as a family! There is a huge field, expansive playground, a splash-pad fountain that lights up at night😊 and an iconic hill which has a beautiful view of downtown (really the whole park does) both day and night. Pro-Tip: snag a cooler and catch a sunset here while the kids play on the playground, in the fountain or in the field!

Built in 1948, this South Austin staple is fun for all ages. It's BYOB and many people bring coolers. It has two courses - an easier and a harder - and you can play both with your club rental. It's right next to the train track, if there's a train aficionado in your group, they are likely to see one!

So this may seem like a weird on in this category, but Bouldin Acres is about a 10 min walk from our house and has pickle ball, TVs, lots of room to spread out, food trucks, a bar, a dog park and a shaded playground. If you're looking to step out, but you've got kids with you, this a great option!

Bishop Cidercade is an all-you-can-play vintage video game house overlooking Lady Bird Lake that serves Bishop Ciders and pizza. Kids are welcome until 8pm, when it becomes 21+. $10 gets you in and you can play as much a you want. It's great way to get out of the heat ... or cold!

Take a walk to see Bouldin's locally famous Peacocks! As you travel the neighborhood you may notice some signs - Peacocks Welcome Here! A little history ... Mattie's sits on one acre of land that was the original 23-acre homestead that became the neighborhood of Bouldin. Martha “Mattie” Faulk and her husband, Henry Faulk, moved to this old South Austin farm house in 1916. In 1946 her daughter Mary moved to live with her daughter on a house overlooking Lake Austin and turned the homestead into a long-standing restaurant called Green Pastures, serving gourmet southern food and renowned for their southern brunch, until 2018 when the property was bought, renovated and r-opened as Matties. Aside from it's history, what Mattie's is known for is free-roaming Peacocks that occupy the entire acre and frequently roam the neighborhood. Mattie's is very welcoming and people frequently roam the grounds just to see the peacocks. There is even an albino one! I've been known to take a morning walk with the kids - grab a coffee at Thai Fresh on the way and head to the peacocks just to get out a bit 😊
