Our Guide To St. Ives

Arts and Culture

When Tate opened it's St Ives gallery in 1993 on the site of the former gasworks in a building designed by Eldred Evans and David Shalev, it cemented this small Cornish town's status as an influential place for British art. It's scene included significant residents Barbara Hepworth, Naum Gabo, Alfred Wallis and Mark Rothko who visited here in 1959. As a tribute, Tate St Ives, has a permanent exhibition surveying the practices of these four artists in dialogue with other local and global luminaries. Then, when you're done, make to the cafe's roof terrace for drinks, great food or just cake with a view :-)
