Playa Herradura
If you are into fishing, this beachside town has a lot of local fishermen with some amazing local knowledge of the surrounding waters.

The locals are super friendly and inviting. Spend a day or two relaxing in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

An incredible black sand beach some of the best surfing in the world, sunsets that will amaze you every night, walk down the beach all the way to Rio Tulin will afford you an opportunity to see some sites you may have never seen before.

If you are into nature, wildlife such as howler monkeys, white faced capuchin monkeys, and the opportunity to see hundreds of bird varieties, the flora and fauna found in Carara Nacional Parque is for you.
It’s a quick 35 minute ride from my house, and the trails are very easy for anyone to traverse.
They have two sections of the park, one that runs along the Tarcoles river, quite buggy during the rainy season so be prepared, and a family friendly trail that takes you through an old growth Forest.
I highly recommend hiring a guide for your first trip as they will point out things that you would otherwise walk right by.
It is inexpensive and you will see more animals in this one park than almost anywhere else in Costa Rica.

Carara National Park Visitor Center
If you are into nature, wildlife such as howler monkeys, white faced capuchin monkeys, and the opportunity to see hundreds of bird varieties, the flora and fauna found in Carara Nacional Parque is for you.
It’s a quick 35 minute ride from my house, and the trails are very easy for anyone to traverse.
They have two sections of the park, one that runs along the Tarcoles river, quite buggy during the rainy season so be prepared, and a family friendly trail that takes you through an old growth Forest.

You can hike the mountain directly behind my house with a little bit of advice from our property managers, or you can drive back towards Jaco and once you pass the Jaco Display on the Pacific coast you will travel approximately two more minutes, and the parking lot will be on your right side; across the street from the gas station.
It does require some strenuous hiking,so be prepared, but the views are stunning and well worth your efforts!
You will see all kinds art work from local artists, great views of the pacific ocean and the beautiful city ofJaco.
I highly recommend you bring plenty of water with you as it is a bit of a hike.
If you hike from my house you’ll see all kinds of nature; a variety of monkeys, Toucans, macaws, and an unbelievable amount of flora and fauna.

Mirador De Jaco
Mirador is a local gem that should not be missed.
You can hike the mountain directly behind my house with a little bit of advice from our property managers, or you can drive back towards Jaco and once you pass the Jaco Display on the Pacific coast you will travel approximately two more minutes, and the parking lot will be on your right side; across the street from the gas station.
It does require some strenuous hiking,so be prepared, but the views are stunning and well worth your efforts!

Diving, snorkeling and whale watching
I have over 1000 dives under my belt, but nothing I have ever seen compares to Cano Island.
The day started with us dropping to around 60 feet onto 10 slumbering white tip sharks.
These sharks are night feeders and sleep most of the day but their 10 to 12 foot girth gave me pause.
We saw turtles, hundreds of varieties of tropical fish, and our experience with the humpback whales was awe inspiring…
When we came up for our 30 minute surface break between dives, a humpback whale and her calf literally came right next to our boat.
I have videos of this experience on top of the water where we were all stunned by the massive size and proximity to our boat, and with my GoPro under the water.
If you’re into diving or snorkeling take a day trip, you won’t be disappointed… I promise you…

Isla del Cano

High Adventure
I’m really afraid of heights, So launching off the side of a mountain strapped to a guide who I had to entrust my life was a little scary.
Since the first time, I now have done it three more times.
If you are an experienced kayaker, or a beginner that’s willing to take some lessons, Neal and his crew are the perfect fit for you.
Spending a day on the beautiful Pacific Ocean in a kayak, either by yourself or with a group, is an amazing time.
The views of the Costa Rican coastline are unparalleled, the fishing is phenomenal, and the beach access to Playa Blanca and Playa Dante are an easy paddle for a morning trip.
I highly recommend Kayak Jaco for the experience of a lifetime.
