I recently discovered (well, someone took me to) this amazing restaurant putting a new spin on traditional Turkish tastes. It was simply amazing, and gives you a good excuse to take a Bosphorous boat ride to the Istinye stop.

You should also consider getting the Istanbul Transportation Card. It costs roughly 1 dollar, and you can fill it up at many points. It can be used for Metro, Bus, Tram, Funicular, Cable Cart and Ferries. And, when you use the card, the transportation is cheaper than if you pay in cash. From the apartment, you can walk in 8 minutes to Taksim Square, where you can get the metro and funicular, as well as the old tram car. Or you can make a very pleasant downhill walk for 11 minutes and you will come to Tophane Tram Station, which takes you direct to the old city.
