Walking

This is a magnificent flat, sandy beach, where you can walk for miles.Out of season the beach is almost deserted. In season, you can grab your own space, large enough to play football or build sandcastles to amuse adults and children alike. There is a beautiful sandy forest that runs for miles behind the lovely sand dunes, with a path going from Wells-next-the-sea to past Holkham. Facilities : Public loos, cafe, visitor information, paid parking. Owner's tip: take the left path on the approach to the beachand walk until you come to the raised walkway on your right. This will take you straight through the forest, through the dunes and onto a quieter part of the beach.

There are few more peaceful places in the world than Morston, especially on an out of season Sunday morning. There is a carpark, free to national trust members and a coffee shop, open in the warmer months. Sit with a coffee listening to the breeze rattling the rigging of the boats in the harbour or take a seal boat trip over to Blakeney point. Don't take the path directly down to the estuary, take the Coastal path towards Stiffkey and enjoy the peace, listening to the many birds that live there and the waves crashing on the shove in the distance beyond the marshes.

This is a great experience for the family. You can even get a Rover ticket for the dog! The line runs from Holt to Sheringham and has stops at Kelling Heath and Kelling Halt on the way. This is an enthusiasts railway, running both steam and diesel trains. Check their website in advance to see what locomotives are running. In very dry weather, they do not run steam trains, due to the risk of brush fires from the sparks. The station in Holt is a little way out of the town centre, so it may be best to park at the station, although the walk from the town centre will only take about 15-20 minutes. The line runs along the coast, providing strunning views across to the sea. Owner's tip Stop at Kelling heath Station for a cup of tea and a cake from the victorian tea rooms and pay a visit to the victorian lavatories. Mostly original! From here you can walk around the Sheringham Park estate. Holt Holt is a gorgeous old Georgian market town just 15 minutes walk from Letheringsett or a 3-4 minute drive. Shopping in Holt is a must, as it has really amazing independent shops and some lovely cafes as well. There is a bus that runs from the war memorial to Sheringham.. Owner's tip Free parking is hard to find, so park in the lay-by on the right just before you reach the town and walk up the hill.

Neighbourhoods

Wells has a lot to offer. A lovely sandy beach, a beach-side carpark ( in school holidays this is usually full from early morning - there are back up Carparks in the town near the harbour.), a beachside cafe and shop. In the harbour area, there are shops, amusements, icecream shops, restaurants and cafes. The harbour has many boats and boat trips and you can buy crab fishing buckets and lines for the children to catch crabs off the harbour wall. Owners tip: Wells has the best fish & chips in North Norfolk. (probably) and my favourite is French's. You won't be disappointed. There is only one ice cream shop for me and that is the Wells ice cream company. Amazing ice cream. Loads of flavours.

Sheringham is a great place for all the family. There are lots of shops, including a Tesco and a Sainsbury, as well as gift shops, arcades and and some quite good pubs and restaurants. owner's tip All the fish and chips in Sheringham is good, but my recommendation is to buy fish and chips from Dave's 7-11 Co-Operative St, Sheringham NR26 8DX and eat if on the sea front (my boyfriend and I did this on our first date ❤️). For dessert, it has to be ice Cream from the Aloha or H and J's, both in the high street.

There is no better picture perfect village than Blakeney. Boasting three pubs and the famous Blakeney Hotel, as well as several restaurants, it's a popular destination ,particularly in the summer months. Crab fishing is great fun for the children, off the harbour wall and you can buy crab fishing kits at the local shops. Gorgeous local ice cream is sold from the kiosk near the car park and there is a breakfast van often in the carpark too. Craft fairs are held in the village hall, near the car park and there are regular antique fairs on Sunday at the hall on the main coast road. There are beautiful walks across the marshes and you can walk along the coastal path to Morston to the west and Cley-next-the-sea to the east. But do not stray from the path, as the marshes are unforgiving to those who do not know every twist and turn of the waterways. The harbour carpark is free in the winter and free all year round to National Trust members. You must make sure that there is not a high tide expected when you park. Your car will be stranded underwater! Owner's Tip Take a drink on the rooftop bar of the Blakeney Hotel at sunset, looking out over the marshes as you watch the sun go down.
