Nestled in the industrial area surrounded by Riong's Balai Berita building, this place is very easy to be missed should you not look closely. It occupies a site that was previously the paper-cutting space for the nearly 50-year-old Art Printing Works factory & storehouse. The owners insist that Pulp be described as a coffee retailer and supplier, rather than as a café. If it's food you want, order the avocado open sandwich and an eggy breakfast for sharing. Or marvel at the mementos of the warehouse over a Blue Batak brew. Minutes drive from our unit.

This complex of giant limestone caves houses temples that have been drawing Hindu pilgrims for more than 120 years. The caves are now one of Malaysia’s most iconic sights and holiest Hindu shrines. Popular with monkeys as much as people, the caves are always a colourful (some might say joyfully tacky) place to visit, and never more so than in late January or early February when hundreds of thousands of pilgrims converge during the three-day Thaipusam festival. To get there, board the train at Abdullah Hukum LRT station and disembark at KL Sentral station. From there, switch to KTM (another rail operator), and get off at Batu Caves station. Batu Caves should be right across the road.
