There's a shortcut to this lake by taking a one lane mountain road that starts off San Francisquito Canyon Road near the Powerhouse stop sign about half way between Copper Hill Drive and Spunky Canyon (Green Valley). Find it on Google maps.

Sightseeing

The collapse of the St. Francis Dam on March 12, 1928, is, in terms of loss of life, the second-greatest disaster in California history. The first was the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906. The death toll from the collapse varies from about 400 to more than 600. There is an abandoned road hike that takes you along an area where you can see rebar and concrete remnants fro the dam.

In addition to being in a quaint part of Newhall, this park is was a ranch owned to a famous Western Movie star (the Western Walk of Fame with Western Movie Stars is along the sidewalks of Newhall). both, there are bison you can see there as well as a museum.

Almost every possible chain store (and more shopping) is located when you take Elizabeth Lake Road to 10th St W (just before I14) and turn left. It is about 25min from Jupiter Mountain House.

You'll need a car to get around the area. There are no nearby full sized grocery stores. Palmdale/Quartz Hill/Lancaster have the nearest shopping areas and a wide variety of restaurant selections. In the opposite direction and a bit further is Santa Clarita and Magic Mountain where you also find shopping/restaurants..
