“ZEALANDIA is the world’s first fully-fenced urban ecosanctuary, with an extraordinary 500-year vision to restore a Wellington valley’s forest and freshwater ecosystems as closely as possible to their pre-human state. The 225 hectare (500+ acre) ecosanctuary is a groundbreaking conservation project that has reintroduced 18 species of native wildlife back into the area, some of which were previously absent from mainland New Zealand for over 100 years. ”

“A must do while in Wellington - the cable car runs between Lambton Quay in the central city to/from the suburb of Kelburn. The trip takes approximately 5 minutes each way. An option is to take the cable car from Lambton Quay, wander down through the Botanical Gardens, perhaps lunch at Picnic, (cafe in the Rose Gardens by the car park) then head back up the hill to get the Cable Car down into Wellington again. If on Public transport from Hillview, the bus from Cortina Avenue would drop you just up from Cable Car Lane on Lambton Quay with the return home bus stop just down from Cable Car Lane. (Fees as at June 2020).”
