While ticket sellers will try to make you purchase tickets to see the Statue of Liberty, you can hop on the Staten Island Ferry to see Lady Liberty up close as well as the Verrazano's Narrow's Bridge. If you wish to step foot onto Liberty Island, I recommend getting tickets online via Groupon as they may be twice as cheeper than getting it from a ticket agent.

The Staten Island ferry is free and a wonderful ride from Battery Park past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to Staten Island.

FREE: Every day, some 70,000 people ride the free ferry to Staten Island, one of the city's outer boroughs, and you should be one of them. Without paying a cent, you get phenomenal views of the Lower Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island during the 25-minute boat ride across New York Harbor.

One of my favorite thing to do on a nice sunny day - it's free and gets you super close to the statue of liberty minus hustle. If you want to stay in Staten Island for a meal, go to Maria Enoteca for the best grandma cooked food in town! PS. you can drink on the ferry either for cheap downstairs where they sell beer or BYOB, totally legal and awesome life hack.
