Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve, off Shelly Beach in Manly, is an incredible place for snorkeling and exciting marine life. It’s a 30-minute ferry trip from Circular Quay, and the reserve is home to more than 160 fish species, like big blue groupers, wobbegong sharks, sea dragons, and elegant wrasse. You can see turtles and dusky whaler sharks here in the warmer months. This is the ocean, so there will be good and bad days as far as currents and visibility go. I recommend a guided tour—we offer one at EcoTreasures—either midweek or late in the day. With a guide, your experience is safe, enjoyable, and gives a detailed picture of Sydney’s specific marine life.

Beautiful local beach. One of only two west facing beaches on the East coast of Australia. Gentle waves and great local cafes. Excellent snorkelling and diving. Walk or Drive Car parking available.

Our favourite morning walk for beautiful vistas, saying friends on the coastal pathway and going for a dip in the calm sea.

“Catch a ferry from Circular Quay to Manly. Buses to Circular Quay run very regularly from any stop on Oxford Street. The bus runs through the CBD and terminates at Circular Quay. From the Ferry there are great Views of Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Fort Denison, and out past North Head and South Head out to the sea. Once at Manly you can walk along the harbour beach, or walk through the shops to the very famous long main beach, which looks out to the sea. There are walks that you can take through some bushland as well. Catch a return Ferry to Circular Quay.”
