The Habous area offers one of the most picturesque aspects of Casablanca. This new city was born with the urban plan launched by General Lyautey during the 20s. It combines, with its big commercial arcades, the biggest lines of Islamic architecture and modern urbanism rules. It includes mosques, Turkish baths, markets, hotels and galleries, but organizes itself as well according to a Provencal-inspired scheme around small convivial places and aired pedestrian streets. Just beside, the Mahkama of the Pasha, built between 1948 and 1952, served in the same time as a court and a reception room for the Pasha of Casablanca.

Stroll through the old medina and you will get a chance to see all the traditional moroccan goods. Stop by the Olive/Spice market for some delicious tastes.

Also known as New Medina, Habbous is packed with open-air markets or souks where shoppers bargain for clothes, fabrics, and Moroccan staples like olives and dried fruits. Traditional patisseries sell almond pastries and stuffed dates. Open for guided tours, Mahkama du Pacha is a Moorish-style government building with mosaics, courtyards, and carved cedar ceilings. Jogging paths skirt flower beds in Parc Murdoch.
