The market is one of the earliest surviving structures in Saigon and an important symbol of the city. The market developed from informal markets created by early 17th-century street vendors gathering together near the Saigon River. Be careful of the scammers and thieves though. Always ask for the price first before deciding to buy or eat something. Don’t be too shy, try to negotiate the price a little bit whenever you want.

Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City's District 1 is a great place to buy local handicrafts, goods, Vietnamese arts and souvenirs. Here, you’ll find food stalls inside the market where you can get a taste of Vietnamese cuisine all around Vietnam or simply cool off with a cold drink when the bargaining becomes too much, however, the price in here is not so good so you should negotiate for best p/p.

Literally sells everything in here - but have to be a great bargain-er to get the values out. Or else maybe just don't buy from here if not something you can't get elsewhere - ask me for advice! But the local food inside is just the greatest - and reasonable/ transparent price. So do enjoy the food offerings.
