This is a casual restaurant by Marcus Samuelsson, the chef responsible for Red Rooster, a fancier restaurant near 125 st. Streebird serves more street-oriented food, like Waffled and Chicken, often with a little bit of an African twist. It has a great energy. The food itself can be hit or miss.

Sightseeing
It's fun to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and might even be better to do in winter because it's less crowded. Grimaldi's is a classic pizza restaurant on the Brooklyn side (in DUMBO). (There are lots of other restaurants there if you can't get it.) On the Manhattan side, I would head north into Chinatown, where you can eat Chinese, or have Ice Cream at the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, or for something lighter, try Vietnamese food at Na Trang.

The High Line is an elevated abandoned rail track that has been turned into a stunning and innovative city park -- a must see. It starts around 31st St., just past 10th Ave., and stretches all the way downtown to the Meatpacking district, and ends on Gansevoort St., at the new location of the Whitney Museum. The Whitney Museum recently moved from the Upper East Side to downtown to a spectacular new building designed by Renzo Piano. It's a good entry into the trendy Meatpacking district, the High Line park, and the charming West Village.

Arts & Culture
Lincoln Center is iconic. If you're not up for seeing a symphony of an opera at the Met, you can catch an independent or foreign film at the Lincoln Center Film society (they have two theaters, the Elinor Bunin and the Walter Reader). There is also an affordable cafe called Indie on 65th St. where you can pick up a sandwich to go or sit and have a nice glass of wine before the show. (Not to be confused with the super-expensive restaurant right above it , Lincoln.) During the summer, it's fun to sit on the roof of the restaurant Lincoln because it's covered with grass!

This is my favorite museum in the city. It has every time period of Western and global art, is beautifully located in Central Park, and is just an all-around city treasure. Go to the roof for cocktails in the summer for a great view of the park and city skyline. The Met now has a new contemporary art site, the Met Breuer, on 75th and Madison.

The American Natural History Museum has a beautiful location on Central Park West. The Planetarium is also attached. It's a good place to walk to through Central Park (a long-ish walk for kids).
