Great swimming / sunbathing beach. Kayak hire, icecream shops, cafe's, a wharf you can jump off, ferry to Matiu/Somes Island & Wellington city. This is a 10 minute walk from my place or a 2 minute drive (with free parking).

Hire a mountain bike and ride around the harbour to Pencarrow Lighthouse and beyond. The Pencarrow Coast Road is unsealed and quiet (occasional private vehicles to watch out for, but mostly walkers and cyclists. Look out for wild goats on the hills, if you're really lucky dolphins or orca entering or leaving the harbour, cruise ships sailing fairly close by.
Best done on a calm or mild southerly wind day (otherwise you're riding into the wind on the way back).
Also a really nice walk if you prefer. Completely flat.
