It is the highest paved road in Britain, terrific views then go on down to the Applecross Inn for the best pub food in Britain, not expensive, always good and local seafood from the bay a speciality. Pigeon salad for under £8 like fillet steak!

This is the steepest, highest road in the UK and offers unrivaled views. Applecross Inn or The Walled Garden are there to welcome you once in Applecross.

This is one of our favourite places to visit, we would highly recommend it. It is the steepest ascent of any road in the UK, with a narrow, winding, single track. it's a great drive, with some of the best views in the area. (Top tip. If you find yourself in group of more than two cars, stop to let them pass, as if you meet another vehicle coming the other way, you'll struggle to find a passing place big enough for you all). If you carry on over the pass you'll get to Applecross, where there is an Inn and an excellent fish and chip van (both closed on a Tuesday). Your satnav will probably tell you it is just over an hour away but it is worth allowing at least half a day for this trip, as there are plenty of beautiful places on the way, to stop at. Lochcarron is on the way there and has a good village shop and some toilets.
