Wallingford is an ancient town in Oxfordshire besieged by Vikings, a place worth visiting. Lots of cafes and shops, lovely craft shops and privately owned boutiques. A walk by the river is recommended.
Beautiful, peaceful and excellently maintained gardens containing the castle ruins. Perfect for picnics and a great place for little explorers.
The mansion, abandoned due to rising costs, was demolished in 1972, allowing Wallingford Castle to be declared a scheduled monument as well as a Grade I listed building. The castle grounds, including the remains of St Nicholas College, two sections of castle wall and the motte hill, are now open to the public.
