Fantastic Hike! See sandstones so rare in this part of the country. Worth the hike!

3.5 mile walk to get to the channels from this point. A great hike and the Channels are an awesome site when you get there. Uphill all the way there, but gentle. Good news, because then its downhill all the way back.

Amazing place to visit! Only about 20 min. on the other side of Abingdon. The main thing to know before heading out... the Channels are 3.5 miles down a trail... so make sure you start the hike in the morning. Amazing photos!!

Most tourists don't know about this local gem. There's nothing else in Virginia like it. About an hour from Abingdon Donkey Lodge (and a very, very narrow and windy road later), you'll arrive at the base of The Channels Nature Preserve. It's a challenging 6-mile hike (3 miles each way) to see the gigantic maze-like rocks at the top. You won't be sorry you spent half your day here.
