This place is unexpectedly cool. You know those rides at Disneyland like the matterhorn where you feel like you're really in a mountain? This is what this place is like. The top level is a gift shop, and historical items. Then they take you down, down, down into the "mine". They had miners build a lot of the items so it really represents what the Homestake Mine looks like. Only open seasonally in the summer months.

Lead has a rich history of gold mining and the Black Hills Mining Museum offers a fine display. There is also a walking tour on Main Street of Lead as well as the above-ground bus tour of the old Homestake Gold Mine.
