The safe sandy beach is popular as a swimming and fishing destination. The annual Ōtaki Kite Festival occurs in February each year on the beach, attracting flyers from the Netherlands, England, United States and Australia.

Otaki Beach is located two kilometres west of Otaki’s shopping centre and four kilometres from state Highway 1. Otaki Surf Life Saving Club is located centrally on the beach and the club provides both volunteer and professional lifeguards during the summer months. The beach will only get large, dangerous waves during periods of bad weather and this is enough to keep people off the beach. The beach slopes gently into the ocean but holes and rips are common.

Enjoy a lovely stroll along the beach. Great sunsets to be had here. Grab a coffee across the road at Lean-to Coffee for your walk or have in house.
