하늘을 가릴 듯 나무가 무성하여 숲을 이룬 삼성혈은 제주 개벽신화에 등장하는 성소(聖所)이다. 고대사가 뚜렷하지 않은 제주도는 세 을나 이후 세월을 훌쩍 뛰어넘은 4~5세기에야 비로소 탐라국이라는 이름으로 역사 기록에 등장하는데, 재미있는 것은 그 주체가 신화 속에 등장하는 고을나의 후손이라는 점이다. 삼성혈은 신화와 역사가 만나는 접점의 상황을 상상 속에서 자유롭게 떠올려볼 만한 신선한 장소이다. 녹음이 우거지고 조용해 사색이나 가족의 산책 코스로 적당하다.
